MARC GLICKMAN is well known around the greater Washington, D.C. area as an expert in string-instrument repair and restoration, and a performer of traditional Jewish, Irish and American music, as well as a producer of educational Jewish craft projects and a sometime artist in Judaica. He received his B.A. in 1973 from the University of Michigan and graduated in 1978 from the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery’s course in guitar-making.

His hand-carved and inlaid wood Chanukah dreidels have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution and B’nai B’rith Klutznick Museums Washington, D.C., the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia, and the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach, Florida, and have been presented as gifts from local schools to Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton at the White House.

With a classical training in piano, he has performed with numerous traditional music groups from Klezmer to Irish and New England contra dance, including his current bands, Blue Bamboo, Rambling House and Sugar Beat, as pianist, guitarist and vocalist.

His interest in non-traditional, hands-on methods of education grow out of a combination of his experience as a counselor and Educational Director in Jewish camping and youth movements, as a Hebrew school teacher in the Chicago and Washington, D.C. areas, and as a craftsman and artist.
